Natural Stone Nachiguro Inkstone from Kumano, Mie Prefecture - Emperor's Tribute - Yamaguchi Mitsumine-do - Unused - Inscribed with a name from Showa 53 (1978)
This is a natural Nachiguro inkstone from Kumano, Mie Prefecture.
Emperor's Tribute Item
Yamaguchi Kōhōdō
This type of inkstone is often found in slightly higher-end items, such as those for gifts, and this piece is a good example of that category.
Nachiguro itself is famous as a good inkstone, and many calligraphy teachers seem to own one.
It is unused, but there is a name written on the back, dated Showa 53 (1978).
The black part may not be clear in the photos, but it is as is in reality.
It was stored in a box in a closet. The box shows scratches, stains, and deterioration.
As this is an old item, please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned or are sensitive about such things.
