● Alesis 3630 Compressor Modified Product

● This is a modified Alesis 3630 Compressor.

◯ It's a 1U size, 2-channel unit with a compressor and gate combination. The internal circuitry is very simple, with only an input buffer, VCA, and output buffer in the signal path, resulting in very high sound quality.

◯ You can switch between Peak and RMS (average value). Use Peak for firmly controlling drum attacks, and RMS for a natural compression effect when applied to the entire mix.

◯ The sound quality is wonderfully natural, with almost no change in sound even with about 20dB of reduction, making it hard to tell if it's even engaged. With its 2-channel specification, it's useful for recording and live performances, whether used on snare and kick, vocals and bass, or as a total mix compressor. Its minimal tonal change and compact, lightweight design also make it convenient for live recording.

◯ Modifications include replacing the power supply diodes and capacitors, using metal film resistors for the signal path, replacing capacitors with high-quality tantalum ones, and upgrading the op-amps to the fast, high-quality National Semiconductor LME49740.

◯ The gate can now be bypassed with a switchable potentiometer. When you turn the gate knob all the way down, there's a click, and the gate circuit is bypassed.

◯ It's highly popular as a classic piece of gear in the US, with modification kits even being sold. It has been made into a VST plugin called NightShine, and you can find many articles about it online. One website even ranked it 20th in a list of all-time best compressors, alongside legendary units like the Fairchild 670 and Urei 1176.

◯ Accessories include a generic power supply and a custom-made sidechain filter. The sidechain filter prevents the compressor from reacting to low frequencies, allowing for a more natural compression effect when used on a 2-mix.
